SFB->SFC Conversion: Heavy War Destroyer Rules

Heavy war destroyers are modular ships with both weapon option mounts (rear facing) and non-weapon options (systems). These can thus be configured into many different configurations. Conversion rules are therefore needed because of the options


Basic rules

  • See R6's G33.1.
  • See SFB Annex #8H for costs, in various modules after R6 was released


Roles to create

The following HDW roles are expected:

  • carrier / pf tender
  • escort
  • commando
  • survey
  • warship

.. note: you don't HAVE to do just limit yourself to those above. You can create any variant you want if it's a good ship! ie:

  • casual carrier warship
    • doesn't need escort
  • marine warship
    • NWOs equipped solely with transporters and barracks. No need for that extra stuff.

Carrier HDW

See R6's G33.42.

  • Must have at least 8 SFB fighters to qualify as carrier
  • the ship already has 2 fighters. remember that.


How to apply conversion:

  • convert all Power options to fighterbays
    • no cost for conversion from APR/AWR that have a '*'
  • convert all NWOs to fighterbays
    • +2 BPV per box converted
  • apply the 2/3 SFB conversion to fighters
    • ie: 10 SFB fighters -> 6 SFC fighters (2 groups of 3 fighters)
    • increase the BPV by 2 per fighter (so likely +12 BPV)
    • set up base fighters for the race
  • Add 1 deck crew per SFB fighter
    • at no extra cost
  • pick weapons that will have low impact on the power curve
    • ie: drone, PLaD, Phaser.
  • Add CARRIER Enhanced Shiplist Role
  • Set SpecialRole to 'V' unless 'R'estricted is necessary
    • ie: unique or conjectural ship
  • Set type to CARRIER unless SPECIAL is necessary
    • ie: LDR are all SPECIAL


PF Tender HDW

See R6's G33.46.

  • Must have 2 special sensors in rear weapon options
    • +10 BPV per sensor. Sucks I know.
  • Must have 6 tractors with mech links
  • Must have repair boxes for the PFs.


How to apply conversion:

  • replace all APR power options with Repair boxes
    • at no additional cost of course
  • install 4 tractors with mechlinks in the NWOs
    • +2 per tractor with mechlink, so +8 BPV
  • install mechlinks (IF NECESSARY) on the ship's own 2 tractors
    • +1 per tractor, so +2 BPV
  • pay for the 4 interceptors
    • +10 BPV per interceptor, so +40 BPV
  • Add PF_TENDER Enhanced Shiplist Role
  • Set SpecialRole to 'V' unless 'R'estricted is necessary
    • ie: unique or conjectural ship
  • Set type to CARRIER unless SPECIAL is necessary
    • ie: LDR are all SPECIAL


Escort HDW

See R6's G33.43

  • no heavy weapons in weapon options
  • All power options must be converted to fighterbays
  • Aegis must be installed.
    • +1 BPV per weapon controlled by limited aegis
    • +2 BPV per weapon controlled by full aegis
    • "All direct-fire weapons including G racks and plasma racks much be under aegis control"
    • weapon options are limited to:
      • phasers
      • ADDs
      • Type G racks
      • PLaD


How to apply conversion:

  • convert all power options to fighterbays
    • at no extra cost
    • you don't actually buy the fighters
  • the NWOs can be whatever you want.. however I have suggestions
    • more tractors! Get at least 2 more
      • +1 BPV per tractor
    • labs on the rest, which would be useful to ID incoming weapons
      • +2 BPV per lab
  • chose a good weapon for defensive configuration
    • you can create a different version for each possibility if you want
    • plasma races: I strongly recommend the PLaD!
    • drone races: Use the DroG!
    • hydrans: can have PhG
    • others: use phasers
  • increase the BPV for the aegis, likely FULL aegis
    • +2 BPV per weapon
  • Set the ship's Enhanced Shiplist Role as ESCORT
  • Set the SpecialRole to 'E' unless 'R'estricted is needed.


Commando HDW

See R6's G33.44

  • must have at least 2 barracks
  • must have at least 2 cargo
  • must have at least 2 GAS shuttles and 1 HTS shuttle


How to apply conversion:

  • convert all power options to shuttle bays
    • we can't do GAS or HTS shuttles, so we'll just add 4 more normal shuttle bays
    • conversion is at no cost. Shuttles are included
  • Set up 2 NWOs are Cargo boxes
    • +1 BPV per cargo box
  • Set up the rest of the NWOs as Barracks
    • +1 BPV per barracks
      • Add 10 marines to Marines Base per barracks
      • Add 20 marines to Marines Max per barracks
  • weapons can be whatever, but keep in mind you don't have your power options, so try to use weapons that won't break your power curve
    • phasers
    • PLaDs
    • Drones/ADDs
    • PLaFs? (stasis)
  • Add the Enhanced Shiplist Role "COMMANDO"
  • Set the class type (aka hull type) to "SPECIAL"
  • Set the SpecialRole to "M" unless "R"estricted


Survey HDW

See R6's G33.41 (Exploration)

  • must have 2 special sensors
  • all Power Options to be converted to cargo
  • have an additional Probe-10 launcher installed
  • have 2 labs added

How to apply conversion:

  • convert all power options to cargo
  • the 2 weapon options are Special Sensors
    • +20 BPV. sucks, I know.
  • convert one of the NWOs to a probe-10
    • +2 BPV
  • convert 2 NWOs to labs
    • +2 BPV per lab
  • the last NWO is all up to you. I would recommend another lab box.
  • set the Enhanced Shiplist Role to SURVEY
  • set the SpecialRole to 'S', or if you must, 'R'estricted
  • leave the Class Type alone, unless you HAVE to set it to SPECIAL for a different reason


Warship HDW

  • This is the standard configuration, and there are no special requirements


How to apply conversion:

  • Leave the power options alone! Power is good.
  • the NWOs can be anything that make sense. I would recommend a little of everything.
    • ie: +1 transporter, +1 tractor, +1 lab, +1 shuttle bay and shuttle
      • +1 BPV +1 BPV +2 BPV +3 BPV == +7 BPV
  • the weapons can be whatever fits
    • make a variant for each decent possibility?
  • Add Enhanced Shiplist Role "WARSHIP"


Casual Carrier HDW

  • leave the power options alone!
  • convert all the NWOs to fighterbays


How to apply conversion:

  • Leave the power options alone! Power is good.
  • the NWOs become fighter bays
    • +2 BPV per bay
  • Add basic fighters
    • This would be around 6 fighters in SFB
    • with the 2/3 rule, this usually makes it 4 fighters in SFC. (2 groups of 2)
    • +2 BPV per SFC fighter.
  • the weapons can be whatever fits
    • make a variant for each decent possibility?
  • Add Enhanced Shiplist Role "WARSHIP"


Marine Warship HDW

  • leave the power options alone!
  • convert the NWOs to barracks and transporters


How to apply conversion:

  • Leave the power options alone! Power is good.
  • change the NWOs to barracks and transporters
    • ie: 2 barracks and 2 transporters
      • +2 BPV +2 BPV == +4 BPV
      • increase the Marines Base by 10 per barracks
      • increase the Marines Max by 20 per barracks
  • the weapons can be whatever fits
    • make a variant for each decent possibility?
  • Add Enhanced Shiplist Role "WARSHIP"
