FAQ

I found an error! Where do I go to report it?

Try Dynaverse.Net's General Starfleet Command Forum. There's probably a OP+ 4.1 Release or Corrections thread there.

Why do some ships not have any UI when viewed in the shipyard?

It's because there's no UI in the game that matched that ship/race's shape, so a UI from another race than the ship's was used. This isn't a blocker for the proper function of the game is I consider it an acceptable trade-off.

This was done mostly to provide working UIs in-mission for all ships. This is important for weapon selection, or for hit&runs.

OP+ 4.1: Hey, where'd the no-models version of the installer go?

I'm not doing a no-models version anymore. I lost my installer source code (and other things) and will not be recreating all that work that I don't feel is worth the effort.

Besides, it's 2011!

If you can't download 71MB (op+ 4.1) or if you don't have 800MB diskspace free on your HD, you should consider upgrading your computer, not have me spend hours just to accomodate you.

Why is this Z-CCX so puny?

Guh. The Taldren version of the Z-CCX has 57 power, 4 MIRVS, 6 phGs.. and i other more normal systems and weapons.. It was demonstrated to me that it could go around at speed 30, overload all 4 disruptors, and have 5 ECM. NUTS!

   57 Total Power
   4x Disruptor 4
   2x Missile Rack C
   6x Phaser G
   6x Phaser X
   2x ADD 12
   4x Drone M

The SFB version of the Z-CCX is much more reasonable for a ship which recieves a Xtech refit. Additionally, the other Mirak X1 ships added to the game also don't have gatlings and MIRVs... Uniformity was needed.

So, in this shiplist, I declared the MIRV racks X2-only weapons, with the exception of when there's enough other Drone racks to warrant the use of 1/some.

The following is based on the official SFB version of the Z-CCX. The Taldren version will not be included in OP+.

   50 Total Power
   4x Disruptor 4
   4x Missile Rack B
   2x Missile Rack C
   4x ADD 12
   10x Phaser X

I already have some models that I like for different hull classes. Do I download the smaller pack and then plug the appropriate mod into the proper folder?

Yes. Make sure the folders and filenames match.

ie:

  • figure out what folder and file is used in the shiplist.
    • B11K: opplus/models/ksbb/ksbb.mod
  • replace the contents of folder opplus/models/ksbb/ with contents of wanted model package.
    • (replace contents, or entire folder, whatever.)
  • make sure the filenames match too.
    • "ksbb.mod" and "ksbb_brk.mod"
  • load up the game and test it out, in a skirmish or something.

As long as you leave the other files intact, you can replace whatever model y ou want and still be able to play with everybody else that have OP+.

Other important files in OP+:

  • shiplist.txt
  • ftrlist.txt
  • shipnames.txt
  • strings.txt
  • model.siz

Have you included any fan made ships in OP+? Or anything not SFC or SFB approved?

Although there are a FEW exceptions, usually the answer is no, I haven't included any ships that aren't official material.

Here are the exceptions:

  • To make sure X1 and X2 era have refitted bases:
    • There are no X2 (aka Advanced era) units in SFB. I had to "upgrade" the bases to X2 status based on what I saw for the existing X2 SBs that exist in stock OP. (I examined it.. and applied similar changes to other X1 bases.) This creates X2 BSs and BATS, as well as X2 SBs with fighters or PFs.

I only consider official SFB modules as published materials. Captains Logs material is from and for SFB, but isn't 100% official yet.

Isn't OP+ based on copyrighted materials?

See OP+ Fair Use for more information on that.
