Partial X Refits Rules

X1-R Partial X Refit/Conversion Rules

NOTE! All refits are optional! You have the option of doing some, not ALL the weapons, systems, etc!

Refitted Ship Tags

  • some parts of the game considers lowercase and uppercase the same. We need to make it different than 'X' refits for new Advanced Technology constructions
  • R-FFHx and R-FFHX are different ships. I suggest the tag 'R-FFHxp' for the refitted one.
  • Keep in mind SFC supports 8 characters max. That's 2 for the race and 6 for the tag itself.

What to set the Refit From field

  • Pick the last instance of the ship you want to upgrade.
  • put the F-CFR in the F-CFx's refit from field.
  • determine the YFA for the F-CFx
  • Set the YLA (year LAST available) of the ship you upgraded FROM to the xp-refit ship's YFA +3 years. You want older ships to overload with newer ships as they gradually get their refits. You also want the older pre-refit ships to disapeer eventually. I chose +3 years from introduction to represent how slow this refit was propogated among the fleets.
  • set the refit text field to 'Partial X Refit'. That text is now in strings.txt and will be matched fleshed out by the game when you view the ship, in the selection screen.

ie:

  • Refit from: F-CF with the Y-175 refit, F-CFR
  • F-CFx YFA: 29
  • refit from field of F-CFx: F-CFR
  • Therefore F-CFR's YLA, which was 999, is now 32
  • refit text field: "Partial X Refit"

Year of Availability of partial X refit

The year of availability depends on what the ship is, and its role. The following are mere suggestions, but they make complete sense to me. Note that the year that Advanced Technology was introduced is the year AFTER the first X-ship was completed for that race. ie: F-CCX appears in 28, so I'd do F-CFx at 29. Note: There's a VERY good chance that the Year Last Available (YLA) in SFC is '999'.

YFA suggestions:

  • +1 years after Advanced Technology Introduction: Strike ships get X partial refits first. ie: F-CFx, F-DNLx
    • would have made sense: these could then be used for Andro strikes
  • +2 year: Heavy Command units get it next
    • DNs (not BBs!)
    • BCHs
  • +3 years: Special combat units
    • Battle Tugs
    • Maulers
    • carriers
    • escorts
    • drone bombardments
    • other leader and command ship
    • PFTs
  • +4 Years: Unique ships
    • In SFB, the Battleships except for the B-10, are all conjectural. I think BBs would/could get it at this point because they are too valuable to pull for refit until now!
  • +4 years: Everything else.
  • note: I decided that bases and stations never get partial X refits. They get overhauled to full Advanced Technology.

You can follow this following chart to help you choose your YFA.

Race Earliest YFA Earliest Year in SFC
Federation Y181 28
Klingon Y181 28
Romulan Y183 30
Mirak Y182 29
Gorn Y183 30
Orion Pirates Y182 29
Hydran Y182 29
Lyran Y182 29
ISC Y182 29

Weapons/Systems Upgrade Rules

X-Batteries

  • XR1.2: replace 1 Battery to an X-Battery for 2 BPV ( 3 points of power per )
  • +2 BPV per battery:
  • + 0.5 BPV per extra hit incurred:
  • THUS: +3 BPV per battery upgrade
  • replace 1 battery with 3 batteries for each replacement.. (so +2 batteries in SFC)

The number of batteries you can replace depends on the size of the ship.

  • Size Class 4 (or size class 5 bases):
    • maximum of 2 replacements to X batteries
      • example: 2 batteries -> 6 X-batteries, +2 *2 BPV for upgrades, +1 BPV for extra hits
  • Size Class 3:
    • maximum of 4 replacements to X batteries
  • Size Class 2 and 1:
    • maximum of 6 replacements to X batteries

APR/AWR

  • XR1.4: replace 1 APR for 2 XPR for 2 BPV
    • Note: upgrade from APRs get more APRs. AWRs get more AWRs
  • + 0.5 BPV for each extra hit that can be taken in SFC
  • + 2 BPV per replacement

The number of APR you can replace depends on the size of the ship.

  • Size Class 4 (or size class 5 bases):
    • maximum of 2 replacements to XPRs
      • example: 2 APR -> 4 XPR, +2 *2 BPV for upgrades, +1 BPV for extra hits
  • Size Class 3:
    • maximum of 4 replacements to XPRs
  • Size Class 2 and 1:
    • maximum of 6 replacements to XPRs

Phasers

Check the SSD, not the ship entry in the shiplist! Some mounts may have been merged to make room for more weapons, in SFC!

  • ph1 -> phX
    • +1 BPV
  • pair of ph3 -> phX
    • +1 BPV
    • This should almost NEVER occur! We'll upgrade the ph1s and ph2s and leave the ph3s alone because of rule XR3.1
  • ph2 -> phX
    • +2 BPV

Drones

There are no X drones in SFC, however we can give them more reloads, or change to G racks or B racks (thus with more drones) on upgrade

  • C -> CX rack: C rack with 3 reloads
    • +6 BPV
    • do not do in SFC unless really wanted. It's just reloads!
  • ADD, A, B, G racks on ship not a drone cruiser: GX racks -> B rack with 2 reloads, 1 ADD12 rack, 1 reload
    • +10 BPV per conversion, +1 BPV for extra hit and ability from ADD12
    • only do this for ADD6, ADD12, A and B racks.
  • Optional for ships with ADD rack: ADD -> X-ADD ---> ADD12 with 2 reloads
    • +2 BPV
  • E racks -> BX -> B racks with 3 reloads
    • + 8 BPV
    • should not be used often in SFC.

MIRV Variants

See: MIRV missiles on non-"X2" Taldren Ships

   On Mirak or X1 ships, each 5th rack can be converted to a MIRV rack, if the number of drone spaces on the ship is preserved. Usually, that means 2 B-racks become 1 MIRV-rack and 1 A-rack. (Each MIRV drone is similar to the double-space MW drone from SFB. Since a MIRV rack has 4 drones per reload, that means the rack is HUGE, sporting 8 drone spaces per reload. The B rack only has 6, so something has to be done to compensate)

From http://klingon.pet.dhs.org/OP_plusrefit/contents_changes.html#Y175:

   * CX racks should have 3 reloads. (C racks on X ships)
   * GX racks should have 3 reloads.
   * (G racks on X ships are really like B racks with 2 reloads. In OP+ 2.2, the GX racks have been replaced by B racks with 2 reloads on player demand. In versions 2.0 and 2.1c, the GX racks are G racks with 3 reloads)
  • Create a ship with a MIRV variant (m) for when there's a 5th rack available.
    • 2 B racks become 1 MIRV-rack (2 reloads) and 1 A-rack (2 reloads).
    • +20 BPV per conversion. Yes, really. You pay for the MIRV drones too

Plasmas

See: XR4.25

The following ship classes cannot have their heavy weapons (plasmas) upgraded:

  • WAR_CRUISER
  • WAR_DESTROYER
  • HEAVY_WAR_DESTROYER
  • HEAVY_WAR_CRUISER (not in SFB yet)
  • size class 2 or 1 ships

Exception: Romulan Sparrowhawks and Skyhawks, Gorn BDD and all NCAs. Special note, Tugs: pods cannot have their heavy weapons upgraded.

  • PLaF
    • SFB: upgrade PLaF to PLaL for 2 BPV
    • Normally we'd upgrade from F to L for the 2 BPV, however we're adjusting it by -0.5 BPV because there are no PLaLs in SFC. We'll use a PLaG instead, and it has no stasis.
    • If the PLaF is a wing-mount, leave it alone! Remember! The upgrade is OPTIONAL. No need to spend too much BPV!
  • PLaG
    • upgrade PLaG to PLaS for 3 points.
    • must be on ships Size Class 3 or larger.
  • PLaS
    • SFB: upgrade PLaS to PLaM for 4 BPV
    • SFC adjustment: make it a PLaR and increase it by another 10 BPV for the R's extra damage. After all, the PLaR is the same range as a PLaM.
    • must be on ships Size Class 3 or larger.
  • PLaR
    • no upgrade
  • PLaD
    • no upgrade
  • PLaI
    • no upgrade

Disruptors

The following ship classes cannot have their heavy weapons (Disruptors) upgraded:

  • WAR_CRUISER
  • WAR_DESTROYER
  • HEAVY_WAR_DESTROYER
  • HEAVY_WAR_CRUISER (not in SFB yet)
  • size class 2 or 1 ships

Exception: The Klingon E6 and F6 original F5 and E4 disruptors could be improved, but the added ones (from conversion) cannot. Special note, Tugs: pods cannot have their heavy weapons upgraded.

The disruptors normally costs 2 BPV to upgrade each. However the ships in SFC are already paying for no-UIM burn-out. Adjust the cost to just +1 BPV per disruptor if you're upgrading a ship based on data already in SFC.

Upgrading from base SSD, from a ship where UIM Burn-out was possible:

   * Dis15 -> Dis22 : +2 BPV each
   * Dis22 -> Dis30 : +2 BPV each
   * Dis30 -> Dis40 : +2 BPV each
   * Dis40 : +1 BPV each

Upgrading from ship already in shiplist (UIM burn-out already adjusted):

   * Dis15 -> Dis22 : +1 BPV each
   * Dis22 -> Dis30 : +1 BPV each
   * Dis30 -> Dis40 : +1 BPV each
   * Dis40 : do not upgrade

Note: If you're upgrading from a Dis2 to a Dis4 (ie: a tug) pay only the 2 BPV. It's not cumulative.

PFs and Fighters

Fighter Bays

See: Carriers: 2/3 SFB Fighters, base fighters and BPV

  • If upgrading from SFB SSD, equip the ship with 2/3 the number of fighters it normally gets in SFC.
  • If upgrading from a SFC ship, keep the same number of fighters.
  • put the most basic fighter for the race and increase the BPV by 2 for each fighter.
  • Note: X-refit hydran ships don't get the X-Fighters included in their BPV

PFs

See: PF Tenders, base Interceptors, and BPV

If the ship has built-in mechlinks (not mechlinks you added in because you thought it would be cool if..), then the ship MUST also get interceptors. EXCEPTION: Bases get PF+ (not leaders). To calculate a base's BPV, Add the BPV of each PF+.

Why force the cost of PFs if the ship has mechlinks?

  • .. because it makes historical sense. By the time X ships are introduced, PFs are everywhere.
  • .. because there isn't enough room in the shiplist otherwise. There were too many F PF variants. (not to mention 'n'o-fighter variants)
